Thank you for reading my prep guide. I am so excited to meet you and your sweet new baby!

Keep in mind, every baby is different and some can get more fussier than others. There is hardly nothing I haven’t already seen in my years of experience as a newborn photographer and a mom to 3 kids! But do not worry, I have plenty of techniques designed to soothe your baby and I am confident we will have a beautiful session. If your baby is older than 30 days, just keep in mind they tend to be more alert and awake. Every session is baby-led so we will attempt to soothe baby to sleep but regardless, capture beautiful shots. It is always important to manage expectations. I will communicate with you throughout the session.

It is important that any siblings that come to the studio are supervised at all times and we keep the studio area as quiet as possible.

  • Sleepy Baby

The session flows best when we have a sleepy baby. So here are a few things that could help baby sleep:

    1. Please consider giving baby a bath in the morning before coming in for the session. This will stimulate baby and help baby tire out. Motioning your baby after the bath will also help with pressure points and relaxation. Allowing your baby to kick and be free for around 10-15 minutes may help as well.

    2. Dress baby in a zip-up sleeper or a button up. No undershirt please as we do not want any clothing we have to pull over baby’s head.

    3. Please avoid using white diaper cream the morning of the session

    4. Try to time baby’s feeding for when you arrive in studio. Feeding before you leave for the session is also suggested, depending on how long the drive to the studio will be.

    5. Bottle/Breastfeeding: If you are breastfeeding, I have a poppy pillow in studio you can use. Please bring an extra bottle in case we need to quickly feed mid-session. Please try to avoid eating anything spicy (i.e. Pizza, hot sauce) or anything that will cause gas and may upset baby’s tummy, for at least 48 hours before your session. A gassy baby will more likely be uncomfortable during posing and prevent deep sleep. If bottle feeding, bring an extra bottle. I have bottle warmers in studio if necessary.

    6. Please bring a pacifier, even if baby doesn’t use one. Some babies need to suck for a few seconds in order to settle into a pose.

  • Safety

    Safety is my priority!

I value and will put your newborn’s safety above any images or poses. I am certified in Newborn Photography Safety by APNPI

Please advise of any special circumstances that I need to be aware of prior to our session date (i.e. feeding tube, etc.) prior to the session date. As soon as possible is best!

    Additional guests:

One additional guest, besides parents is welcome in studio. Please be advised that any children must be supervised at all times.

    Behind the scenes photos!

This is a special time for you and your family and I understand you might want to capture the moment! Behind the scenes cell phone photos are permitted, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the session or my work area. So you may take photos from your seating area, however, flash photography and any professional equipment is strictly prohibited.

  • Session Time!

Time frame: Approximately 1:00-1:30 hr and up to 3hrs (depending on your package)

What to wear: My home is kept at 75 degrees and I keep a space heater close to the set to keep studio area warm. Dress comfortably, you may be here a while.

Studio accommodations: I provide a seating area for parents where you re welcome to take a snooze, read a book, stream a show/movie with your feet up or you are welcome to sit up with me while I photograph. Snacks are provided as well as bottled water for your convenience. A guest rest room is also available. For baby, diapers, baby wipes, and a changing mat will be available (so don’t stress if you forgot anything)

Props: I supply all the backdrops, props, hats, outfits, and headbands for the session. I am always up for new ideas, but be aware that I will not use anything that will harm, irritate or look awkward on or with your newborn. If you see something you like in any of my galleries, be sure to mention it before your session begins. I will try my best to pose your baby in the poses you want but ultimately, your baby is my boss. It will all depend on how well baby cooperates and how safe the pose is for your little one. I cannot guarantee any pose for this reason. Any props you’d like to bring from home must be discussed with me and brought to the studio 2 days prior to the session so I can plan the sets. I cannot guarantee the use of any props brought in the day of the session.
