Thank you for reading my prep guide! I look forward to seeing you at our appointment and capturing your baby’s first birthday photos!

Keep in mind, every baby is different and some can get more fussier than others. There is hardly nothing I haven’t already seen in my years of experience as a photographer and a mom to 3 kids! But do not worry, I have plenty of techniques designed to keep your baby in good spirits and I am confident we will have a beautiful session.

It is important that any siblings that come to the studio are supervised at all times for their safety and the studio equipment.

  • Happy baby

The session flows best when we have a happy baby. So here are a few things that could help:

    1. Please consider timing naptime before the session. The less tired baby is during the session, the more they will cooperate.

    2. Try to time baby’s feeding for before you arrive in studio. Feeding before you leave for the session is also suggested, depending on how long the drive to the studio will be.

    3. If possible, bring a dry snack for baby (cheerios, puffs)

  • Safety

    Safety is my priority!

I value and will put your baby’s safety above any images or poses. I will ask that one person stay near me during the session in case baby takes-off!

If baby gets too restless, we can pause for a couple of minutes to provide reassurance and comfort before proceeding .

  • Session Time!

    Time frame: Approximately 1:00-1:30 hr

What to wear: I strongly suggest dressing baby in zip-up pjs to avoid any clothing to go over their head and upsetting them right before their session. You will have access to our full client closet wardrobe for baby. We will be ready to show you different pieces to choose from.

Studio accommodations: I provide a seating area for parents where you re welcome to see the full session from there! One parent is always welcome to sit near me for additional reassurance for baby. Any other guests are asked to remain in the seating area for safety. A guest rest room is also available. For baby, diapers, baby wipes, and a changing mat will be available (so don’t stress if you forgot anything)

Props: I supply all the backdrops, props, hats, outfits, and headbands for the session. I am always up for new ideas, but be aware that I will not use anything that will harm, irritate or look awkward on or with your baby. If you see something you like in any of my galleries, be sure to mention it before your session day.

  • Experience: What to expect?

Upon arrival, we will reveal the setup and props we will use during your session (if any) and proceed to get baby dressed for the first portion of the session.

I always begin with baby alone or with family (no cake, yet) to familiarize baby with the setup and warm up to him/her. This can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes. I encourage parents to sit on the set if necessary and love on baby. This makes for sweet shots too!

Once baby is nice and happy, we begin the session and get baby solo (if we haven’t already) and get ready to bring the cake. If a change of outfit is needed, for the cake smashing portion, we may need to start over

Is it Cake-Time yet? To capture the sweet smiles from baby, we always setup baby alone first and I ask the parent to bring in the cake. Some babies run to it, some others are unfamiliar with it all and take their time. Either way, I ask that we keep dry snacks handy in case we need to put some on the cake for baby to touch. Get ready for the smiles!

Lastly, once enough cake has been eaten, we move on to the clean up! I provide a bathtub prop for baby to sit in with some water and splash away! This helps with baby’s cleanup and saves baby-wipes!

From there, all is done and you are all done! We will briefly review some of the products we will see at your ordering appointment and setup the time and date for it!

Please note that any damages to studio equipment or props caused by a member of your party (whether accidental or due to mishandling) will be the client’s financial responsibility and added to your final invoice.
We kindly ask that children are supervised at all times to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.
